With so many Chandler, Gilbert and East Valley Residents practicing yoga, most certainly you have either tried yoga yourself, know someone who has tried yoga, heard about yoga on the news or at least have some vague concept of this spandex, human pretzel trend. However this yoga "trend" is not really a trend at all, but an ancient practice that has been used for thousands of years around the world. At Vibetality our goal is to continue to share this ancient art of Yoga with everyone from the yoga beginner to the seasoned pro, right here in Chandler Arizona. We believe a yoga class is a unique and rewarding experience that offers countless benefits including increased strength and flexibility, decreased physical pain, decreased stress levels, better reaction to stress, lowered blood pressure, better cognitive ability, and enhanced mood. At Vibetality we offer more than 40 classes a week. Our yoga classes are suitable for all levels, and we offer a beginner yoga class (yoga 1 or restorative) every single day.
Physical & Mental Benefits
Although many students come to Vibetality looking to lose weight or increase their flexibility, don’t be surprised if you discover that you start to sleep more deeply, or are able to concentrate more easily. Once you begin the Vibetality yoga practice regularly you are likely to notice many of the following common changes.
While yoga has been practiced for thousands of years new studies are being done around the world everyday proving the many benefits of this ancient tradition.
Yoga and Fitness: Yoga can complement an already existing fitness routine. In a recent study published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning people participated in Yoga classes 3 times per week for eight weeks and the results were impressive. "Yoga subjects exhibited increased deadlift strength, substantially increased lower back/hamstring flexibility, increased shoulder flexibility, and modestly decreased body fat..."
Yoga also offers powerful and real benefits when it is the only form of exercise being practiced. "The University of California at Davis recently tested the muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and lung function of 10 college students before and after eight weeks of yoga training. Each week, the students attended four yoga sessions that included 10 minutes of pranayama, 15 minutes of warm-up exercises, 50 minutes of yoga asanas, and 10 minutes of meditation. After eight weeks, the students' muscular strength had increased by as much as 31 percent, muscular endurance by 57 percent, flexibility by as much as 188 percent, and VO2max by 7 percent..." Most studies last between 15-20 weeks because VO2max levels take that long to improve. (Yoga Journal-Is Yoga Enough to Keep You Fit?)
Yoga and Health: Yoga offers some incredible benefits for people of all walks of life. These benefits include both physical improvements and psychological improvements. A study from Boston University School of Medicine and McLean Hospital showed there may just be something to the "happy yogi." In clinical tests they found doing one hour of yoga asanas (a sequence of standing, sitting and balancing poses) helped yogis raise their levels of the brain chemical GABA (low levels are linked with depression) by 27 percent compared to their control group.
Another recent article suggests, "...researchers [say] doing yoga improves posture and strengthens back muscles to help calm aches and pains. Back pain sufferers who did two 90-minute yoga classes a week for about six months eased soreness by 56%, a study showed. Those given treatments like pain meds and physical therapy lessened the hurt by only 16%. (Self Magazine)
Yoga also offers some surprising benefits to parts of the body you don't usually think about. "Yoga training may be the only form of exercise that stimulates your internal organs. This helps prevent disease by maintaining organ health...yoga stretches and stimulates the muscles and organs of the body in a uniform manner. This allows increased blood flow to all parts of your body, which helps to flush out the toxins that can accumulate in your body's tissues." (fitday.com)
The Mayo Clinic and their staff are now fully on board with the practice of yoga. "Yoga can help reduce risk factors for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and high blood pressure. Yoga might also help alleviate chronic conditions, such as depression, pain, anxiety and insomnia", says Mayo Clinic staff.

Yoga is a practice of focus and surrender that gently asks us to tune in to the present moment and live, if only for
a breath, in that place of stillness and magic.

“Samskara saksat karanat purvajati jnanam. Through sustained focus and meditation on our patterns, habits, and conditioning, we gain knowledge and understanding of our past and how we can change the patterns that aren’t serving us to live more freely and fully.”
